In celebrating Christmas 2022, Steiff have continued with their exceptionally popular seasonal sets. This year is the Nativity Scene with Mary and Joseph having welcomed baby Jesus, who now rests inside his manger, within the 'home' of an ox – a stable being lit from the glow of the star of Bethlehem.
The detailed stable that provides the new family with shelter has been crafted from warm maple wood, as has the new babes 'cot'.
Joseph is an 11cm, fully jointed teddy bear and has been sewn from the finest luxury honey mohair, with warm wool felt paws, two-tone brown safety eyes and a hand stitched chestnut nose and mouth creating his appealing face. He is dressed in a long, cotton teal tunic, covered with a long-sleeved, mottled-grey woven coat.
Mary is a 10cm, fully jointed teddy bear and has been sewn from the finest luxury blonde mohair, with warm wool felt paws, glossy black eyes and dainty hand stitched chestnut nose and mouth, embracing her pretty face. She wears a white cotton head scarf and a long, cotton red tunic, covered with a long-sleeved, mottled-blue woven coat.
Baby Jesus is a wee 5 cm teddy with the sweetest facial features and is wrapped in a woven, frayed-edged 'hessian'.
The attentive Ox is 11cm in size and sewn from the finest, luxury mohair in white and light-tan, with wool felt horns and ears, plus a woven cord tail. He has glossy two-tone eyes, with hand applied colour shading defining and shaping his said eyes and detailed blushed muzzle, including his nostrils and mouth.
To finish, a golden wool felt Star of Bethlehem hangs from the apex of the stable roof, turning night into day and celebrating the arrival of Jesus.
The characters all have the same numbered, Limited Edition white label, featuring Steiff's trademark 'button in the ear'.
