Over a century after Margarete Steiff initially founded her felted and mohair creations and established her Toy Factory, some of her rarest designs began to turn up at auction, (including earlier pieces, who didn't have a 'button in the ear'). Today there is still a great amount of interest from arctophiles and antique collectors alike, when any Steiff hit the auction block.
This fabulous Auctioneer Set complete with wooden gravel and auction block, even has a red Teddy Bear being auctioned off. Do you think it maybe Alfonso? A wonderful design from 2008, by the Master Teddy Bear Makers, Steiff.
The Auctioneer is a 28 cm / 11" fully jointed, character teddy bear. He has been sewn from the most luxuriously dense, caramel mohair with warm, wool felt paws, glossy black eyes and a handsome, hand stitched black flax nose, upon his trimmed muzzle. He wears a tailored, black waistcoat with a trio of buttons and a sumptuous cream silk bow tie. In his right paw he holds firmly his brass and wooden gravel, waiting to confirm the highest bid, by hitting his beech auction block, that has been stained in a walnut shade and features a brass plaque with Teddy Bear Auctions engraved upon it in German. His Lot – is a 6 cm / 2.3" fully jointed, teddy bear who has been sewn from the finest red mohair, upon a yellow cotton backing, with tactile paw pads, black eyes and a hand stitched cocoa hued nose. Gorgeously adorable!
This European Special Exclusive, is a Limited Edition of just 1,500 sets (both bears have their 'button in the ear' and matching Limited Edition numbers) and will come to you boxed, with their certificate of authenticity.
