This beauty from 2005, is quite a significant Bear and is the first piece from Steiffs fabulous series, of The Four Missing Bears.
It was 1908 and Otto Steiff, along with the Steiff representative for England – Herbert Hughes, comissioned six coloured bears for presentation in London. Four were sent ahead, their colours … pink, yellow, black and green, they crossed the channel, but were never seen again! Luckily, still hiding in the Steiff archives was a 1908 Roly Poly Clown, sewn from the same vibrant new colour fabrics, that had been used for each sample. Steiff rediscovered him and were able to match the shade exactly, creating this fabulous premiere piece, from the Missing Bears Series.
Green is 35cm tall and fully jointed. He has been stuffed with wood shavings and features glossy, wooden eyes … just like the long, lost original. His luxuriant mohair is a leaf green upon a beige backing, which shows through at his shaved muzzle. He has natural pale, wool felt paws with charming, hand stitched chestnut features. A long resonating growl, speaks volumes to his importance in Steiffs Teddy Bear History.
