Laurel hedging plants in 25 litre pots. These are Cherry Laurel, also known as Laurel, Common Laurel or English Laurel or by its botanical name Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia'.
These plants are currently between 2.2 and 2.4m tall. Plant height is measured from the top of the pot to the top of the plant.
These Laurel plants are supplied in 25 litre pots which are 37cm diameter x 28cm deep (1’3” X 11”). The planting hole should be 1.5-2 times the size of the pot, so approx. 60 cm wide x 30cm deep (2ft x 1ft). Loosen the base of the hole for about another 30cm/12” to improve drainage. Mix our professional 12-14 month feed with the soil and backfill with soil or a compost and soil mix. Firm well. Keep well watered for the first growing season. Laurels have large, shiny evergreen leaves, with the added bonus of spikes of pretty white flowers in the spring and red berries in the autumn.
They are very hardy and disease-resistant giving a dense screen quickly which gives an effective sound barrier for busy roads.
Equally happy in sun or shade, laurels are easy to care for. They can be pruned to keep them 2m (6ft) high or can grow up to 5m (16ft). Pruning once or twice a year will keep them in shape, or clip less frequently for an informal screen with more flowers.
Growth rate is up to 60cm (24”) per year and it thickens up rapidly.
It grows well in most types of soil other than shallow chalk soil, and even do well in clay provided that the soil is not waterlogged.
If you want to achieve a large, thick, foolproof evergreen hedge quickly, laurel is an excellent choice.
