In recent times wool felting and wool felt sculpture have come to the fore, highlighting the artistry behind it. With the use of a wire frame, unspun wool fibres, can be sculpted into shapes, figures and any 3D object using specialist barbed felting needles, time and of course patience. Some pieces are exceptionally realistic whilst others are full of contemporary whimsy.
Mr Fox in his Sunday Best is a felt sculpture, by the incredibly talented, Devon based artist, Karen Arthurs for Moonpipit. Many, many hours have been spent forming Mr Fox's shape, blending fibres and bringing detail. He is a typical red fox, with his auburn coat, white vest, muzzle, jaw and tail tip, with darker cocoa tones for his lower limbs and paws. He is quite the character, wearing his matching felt collar and cuffs, each adorned with a single, faceted black bead, a tall top hat, worn almost jauntily, features a black grosgrain ribbon band with a decorative, naturally patterned feather, whilst his left paw holds a gentleman's cane, pulling his elegant look together, with his right bearing a posey of felted pink roses. The personality from his face shines through, with glimmering eyes pulling you in from his smiling expression, fabulous cocoa nose and flattened ears, bring the adorable charm. He's off to meet a vixen!
He comes on his display plinth, with measurement from the base of the display to the top of his hat.
