Schuco was founded in 1912 in Nuremburg, Germany as a tinplate, mechanical toy company. After WWI they began to produce both mohair and plush teddy bears, with some featuring a mechanical movement, like this rare 1950's Yes / No Panda 'Tricky'.
Tricky is a 12 cm / 8", fully jointed panda with a tail to head, yes / no mechanism, which over time now ceases to work. He has been crafted from two luxurious mohair, in black and white, with carded wool felt paws, (which have been restored on the sole with fabric), so that he can stand unaided, whilst hand painted, two-tone brown hazel eyes, with a smart hand stitched nose mouth and red tongue create his character. To finish, his since faded panda 'eyes' were originally hand painted to keep costs down.
This sweet fellow is approximately 72 years old and is really quite special, yet due to age (as expected) there are some things to mention. There are sparse areas and wear to his coat, with an exposed part of the metal joint, protruding through his left shoulder, however it doesn't distract from his overall appeal.
A real treasure!
