To mark their 140th Anniversary, Steiff have returned to the beginning. Having come upon a pattern for an Elephant Pin Cushion, dressmaker Margarete Steiff crafted said elephant and gifted it to her close sister-in-law – Anna Steiff. The year was 1880. Later that very same year, Margarete sold her first "Elefantle to a customer at her workshop, she was now on her way crafting soft toys and teddy bears for the world, all the time developing and growing the phenomenal empire that was to become Steiff.
The Little Felt Elephant is 29cm / 11.5" in size and non-jointed. He has been crafted from the finest and most luxuriant white wool felt, whilst his ornate and decorative saddle cloth is yellow and blue and completely detachable, should you wish to remove the 14 black pins (from their pattern). Also featuring on the top of the saddle cloth, are the initials of Anna Steiff (A.S.), reminding you as to whom this premiere piece was actually intended. He has twinkling black glass beads for eyes and bears a 140th Anniversary pendent with the "Elefantle" image, confirming his important status.
