Boogie Gorilla (062216) has highlighted his plight before and now it is the turn of his mini counterpart Boogie Gorilla, to remind us of the Western Lowland Gorillas. A fabulous character from the outstanding German maker – Steiff.
Western Lowland Gorillas are distinguished by their smaller frames and their brown-grey coats. Once in large numbers, poaching and disease have seen their numbers decline to an astonishing 65% in the last 25 years. Even with the threat of poaching and trophy hunting removed, it has been estimated that it would take at least 75 years for their numbers to return to what they were before. They feature on the Red List of Threatened Species.
The Lowland Gorillas were photographed by Joel Sartore, for National Geographic and their Photo Ark, Species Preservation Project.
Boogie is 11cm / 4.3" and non-jointed. He has been sewn from three luxurious short-pile mohairs in black, grey and blonde, with warm wool felt accents for his wee ears, charismatic face and digit defined hands and feet, plus he has glossy black safety eyes, whilst delicately applied hand shading and painting has been used to shape and distinguish his form and detailed features. A fabulous mini masterpiece!
Boogie wears his Steiff button-in-ear with yellow label and is surface washable only.
