Steiff 670299 Polar The Titanic Bear Limited Edition

Made in 1998, we have the 22cm long, L/E Steiff Mohair Titanic Polar Bear. This fabulous Polar Bear has got its own poignant part in history. It represents a mohair Polar Bear that was crafted in 1909, and gifted to a young Douglas Spedden (the Son of author Daisy Spedden) in 1911. Douglas instantly called him Polar, not knowing that he would soon became a part of maritime history. Douglas held on tight to Polar, when in 1912, his family were rescued from a lifeboat, as they escaped the sinking HMS Titanic!Polar is six-way jointed (double necked), and sewn from the finest mohair. He has crisp hand stitched claws, nose and mouth, with a blue satin ribbon around his neck supporting a porcelain disc – Polar, The Titanic Bear. The lifelike shaped Polar is a Worldwide Limited Edition of 5,000 pieces and comes with his attached certificate of authenticity. Please note, Steiff released this piece unboxed.
